Questions To Ask When Choosing a Non-Medical Home Care Company
How long has the agency been serving the local community?
Carefree Homecare has been serving Metro Phoenix since 1995.
Are the caregivers employees of the agency?
Yes, Carefree caregivers are Carefree employees, not independent contractors. Contractors cannot be insured, have minimal bonding, if any, are not covered by workman’s compensation and take out their own taxes which can become a liability for whoever hires them if the contractor does not report their income.
How does the agency check out the background of the employees?
Client safety is very important at Carefree Homecare. All employees undergo a three stage criminal background check. They must receive an Arizona issued Fingerprint Clearance Card and successfully pass a county residence trace criminal background check. We also perform “annual” criminal background checks on all employees. Department of Motor Vehicle records are also checked on every employee. Lastly, all new employees must pass a pre-employment drug test and are subject to random testing year-round.
Are caregivers trained?
Carefree Homecare prides itself on having the best trained caregivers in the Phoenix area. All caregivers are trained before ever seeing their first client and must annually complete our caregiver recertification training program. And it does not stop there. Monthly training is provided as well as specialized training in Alzheimer’s Disease.
Do you have a nurse on staff?
Carefree Homecare has both an LPN and RN on staff. Carefree offers a free initial assessment by a nurse. All clients and caregivers are supervised by a nurse.
Do we get a personalized care plan?
Yes, the Carefree nurse creates, maintains, and oversees all care plans. A copy of the care plan is left at the residence and for safety of redundancy is maintained at all times within the Carefree computer system and in a separate binder in the corporate office in the case of an electrical failure.
Do you have medication management?
Yes, the Carefree nurses are available for medication set-up, re-ordering of medications, blood glucose monitoring and as a liaison between the client and the family doctor as pertains to medication management. The statistics are staggering as to Emergency Room visits that could have been avoided had medications been properly overseen by a professional.
Does your agency have a supervisor “on call” at all times?
Yes, at Carefree Homecare a Manager on Duty is available 24/7 with a 24-Hour Helpline which connects you directly to the manager.
Do we need to sign a contract?
Yes, Carefree Homecare feels a contract is for both the safety of the client as well as for Carefree as both parties fully understand and agree upon the services being received and the fees associated with the services. The contract can be cancelled at any time with only 24 hour notice. There is no required period of time for the contract.
How can the agency assure client confidentiality?
Carefree Homecare adheres to the Federal HIPAA Privacy Rule and provides all clients with HIPAA compliancy paperwork stating Carefree Homecare adheres to HIPAA policies. In addition, all caregivers are required annually to attend an internal class on HIPAA regulations.
Providing quality care is our only business.
